So for anyone that didn't know, Kathryn and I have been in Africa for the last month or so visiting the countries of Kenya (red) and Tanzania (blue). I've included this map since many of us don't know how Africa fits together and this at least gives a context for where we've been beyond a bunch of photos from the ground.
Kenya is a former British colony that earned its independence through armed resistance in 1957. Its had its ups and downs with political corruption in the past but seems to be really moving on its way forward.
Tanzania is an amalgam of an old British colony and previously Arab Zanzibar. Formed in 1964 its had a rockier road through a failed socialist regime but has turned itself around since the 80s and is on the way up.
Regardless of past history, the people of both countries were incredibly friendly and welcoming. I would heartily recommend both countries to anyone considering a trip in Africa and if you want any tips or info on either we would be happy to share what we learned.
